1817 **195th anniversary** Construction began on the Erie Canal in Rome, New York.

1837 **175th anniversary** The Grand Junction Railway, the first long-distance railroad, opened in the UK.

1912 **100th anniversary** A Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad passenger train was struck by a freight train in Gibson, New York.  Thirty-nine people died. 

1927 **80th anniversary** The Lockheed Vega made its first flight.
