HERE Provides the First-Ever Lane-Level Traffic
HERE has developed a
new algorithm to identify fast and slow-moving lanes on the same road,
providing better information for drivers on road conditions ahead and the
fastest route to use. Most traffic reporting systems provide an average
speed of both backed-up traffic and freely moving vehicles, but that’s not ideal
for route planning. Average speeds might lead a driver to avoid a more direct
route that’s actually faster than the average road speed suggests – because the
traffic conditions are different for each lane. Lane-level traffic also allows
government agencies to better analyze junctions where exit lanes might create a
significant backup, that is different from the overall speed of that road
segment.
Split Lane Traffic
Reporting at Junctions is based on a new algorithm described in HERE’s latest white paper. The algorithm
solves the fundamental problem of reporting two different traffic speeds at
