Tuesday Transportation Oddities
There are a variety of types of movable bridges. One of the most unusual is the retractable bridge. The Carroll Street Bridge over the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn is not only a retractable bridge, but the only bridge in New York City that has a wooden deck and allows vehicle traffic. My limited research shows there are four retractable bridges left in the US, including the Borden Avenue Bridge, also in New York City.
