Tuesday Transportation Oddities
From time to time I’ll see news stories of buildings being moved to new sites rather than being torn down. Often these buildings hold some historic significance. None of those building moves equal this one, however. This three story brick high school building was constructed following the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The school opened in 1911 and in a move amazing for both the engineering accomplishment and the short-sightedness of planning, San Francisco decided they wanted to build city hall on the plot of land where the new school stood. Rather than tear down the new building it was decided to move it several blocks. The move took from May until October. The building still stands.
